Dancing Soma (aka Roy DiBenerdini)
Since my early childhood I was exposed to my grandfather - Balgobin Singh's music (watching him sing, play the tablas, sitar and harmonium). This made me start experimenting with sounds and recordings at an early age. When I was ten I was introduced to my first guitar, I later played in a few high school and college bands.
In the early 90's I was involved with The Flood, a Texas dark rock/punk band (influenced
heavily by the Doors and Joy Division). Hence, I am influenced by several of the early punk and industrial projects like the Monochrome Set, Bahaus, Joy Division, Cabaret Voltaire, Killing Joke, Ministry, Front 242 and then later from the dub projects like the Orb and Underworld, etc.
In the late 90's I took a break from music, but continue to attend various Techno and Trance events/parties dancing to the sounds of DJs playing Electric Universe, Juno Reactor and Eat Static etc.
For the past five years I have been producing psychedelic trance and downtempo. First, as one half of the Plastic Ocean duo -- producing more tribal trance and now as Dancing Soma, focusing on dark funky psytrance and IDM/downtempo.
After playing at several indoor and outdoor events at places like the Burning Man Festival (US) and traveling all over the world to interesting places like Amsterdam and India (Goa), the Dancing Soma project is here with tracks released on Truffle Records' Sunspots, Solar Flares and other compilations such as the Earthdance DVD/CD "Dancing The Dream Awake" and now the full lenght Audible Life Stream and on the Ice Ages comp.
